Federal Filing Status

Federal filing status affects FED TAX and the default state filing status.

When checked (2020+ W-4), use Step 2(c)/3/4 fields. When unchecked (pre-2020 W-4 on file), enter federal withholding allowances — the engine applies the IRS computational bridge, so FED TAX usually changes even before you fill Step 4 amounts.
